MaDham visit on the 5th of July 2009

Dr. V.Mohini Giri, Ms.Sangamitra, Mr. Ram Veer, Mr. Idris, Mr. Rafeeq, Mr. Naseer and Mr. Parvez and Ms. Pallavi Tomar visited MaDham on the 5th of July 2009.

Meeting the Maa’s

They were greeted with the auspicious red tikka’s being put on their foreheads and were led straight into the foyer where the Maa’s were deeply immersed in their morning session of Pravachan by Panditji. The environment radiated with an energy of deep devotion and the feeling of true faith in God.

In sync with the ambience, Dr. Mohini Giri began with a prayer for the Maa’s and they enthusiastically joined her in the flow. After which, along with Dr. Mohini Giri, Ms. Pallavi Tomar also spoke to the mothers individually asking them about their pensions, their medications, any health ailments, or any kind of problem or discomfort they were facing. The Maa’s spoke and shared with them candidly about their feelings and health. Some of the Maa’s had not yet started receiving their pensions, some shared their health ailments, but they all along side voiced a deep sense of contentment and gratitude for the life they found at MaDham. The required steps have been taken to insure that these women get their pensions at the earliest.

Even Ms. Sangamitra addressed the Maa’s in Bengali about how delighted to have visited the place and informed the Maa’s that her organization Srishti was working towards setting up a computer centre in the premises for computer classes to be held for children from nearby villages. The Maa’s were more than delighted to have a visitor address them in Bengali, a language the majority of them associate with so deeply and to know of the computer centre within the premises.

Before dispersing for lunch, one of the Maa’s initiated a bhajan and once again the hall filled with the resonating sound of devotion and everyone present joined in.

Each mother was given a fruit, a bathing and a washing soap. It was a heartwarming experience to see their faces beaming with such resilient smiles despite the abuse and rejection these Maa’s have faced from the society.

The Doctor's Report

Dr. Saurabh Gautam, the doctor in-charge at the MaDham premises briefed Dr. Mohini Giri and Ms. Pallavi Tomar on the working of the medical centre. He reported that the general category of patients, those including with complaints of fever, breathing, gastric troubles or eye problems were generally about 20 a day.

He said they received about 18 patients per day for the physiotherapy treatment at the centre, of ailments such as arthritis, lower back pain, spondilitis, spondylosis etc.

They also saw around 5 to 6 patients everyday from the nearby villages mostly with fertility problems, family issues and stress related problems.

The Training Program

Women from the nearby villages come in flocks to join the Auxiliary Nurses Training program held at MaDham. This not just aims at empowering these women to learn such skills which can help them earn a decent living but also promotes a healthy interaction between the mothers at MaDham and the women from the surrounding villages. Many of these women also contribute to the gardening, stitching of bags etc at MaDham and earn their living from it.

With the preparations for starting the computer centre within the premises in collaboration with the organization Srishti, Ms. Sangamitra took a tour of the whole place. The starting of this centre to conduct computer classes for children from the nearby villages will also have a trained computer teacher, and it hopes to strengthen a new bond with the people as well as to equip our future generation with competency in computer skills.
